Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on the highly-rated Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn with an intent of making a winter transfer window bid. The Sun reports that the Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in the 20-year-old and is ready to get into a tussle with Serie A club Torino for signing the PSV Eindhoven wonderkid.

The youngster is an academy prospect at the Dutch side and has been in cracking form this year, helping his side go 8 points clear at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie. He is already an under-21 international with the Dutch and Pochettino is ready to bid for his services next month when the winter transfer window opens.

This would be interesting because Torino had a £9million bid for the youngster rejected in August and it is believed that the Serie A side are still interested in bidding for the Amsterdam-born player.

Not just Torino, there is interest from England in other Premier League clubs also as West Ham United and Bournemouth have also shown interest in the former Ajax youngster. He has already scored two goals in 15 games this season but to be honest, his impact goes beyond the goals.

Bergwijn is currently under contract at PSV until 2019 but that may not be a contesting point for Tottenham should they decide to bid for his services. There is a view within PSV that there is a certain level of frustration within the player’s camp that he is not a guaranteed starter of coach Philip Cocu’s first-team. Luuk de Jong is his competitor and it is believed that Bergwijn may not be averse to a move to Tottenham.

The winger is rated as one of the best academy pupils at PSV and he has been making steady progress since he made his entry to the senior side almost three years back. Bergwijn is a right winger primarily but can also operate on the left or as a central striker. His flexibility will surely appeal to Pochettino who may be interested in the winger to improve his squad.

But, will this happen in January? I don’t think it may happen in winter but the chances of it happening next summer are very high!
