The curse of the defending champions continued as Germany failed to make it out of the group stage. South Korea were excellent in their final game even though they knew they were out of the World Cup before the kick-off.
The Asian side, however, did not let Germany create too many clear-cut chances despite giving away the majority of possession.
With Sweden hammering Mexico in the other group game, Germany knew a win would be enough to take them through. But in the 91st minute, Kim Young-Gown somehow scored in a crowded box with VAR coming to his rescue.
Toni Kroos got the final touch as the ball fell to Kim and he made no mistake. Manuel Neuer was then caught in possession in the opposition half and Tottenham’s Son Heung-min raced onto a long-ball to slot into an empty net.
Jubilation and celebration for the Asian side but a horror show from Germany.
Even though we will not be seeing Son in the next round of the competition, Twitter certainly was full of praise for the Tottenham star.
Can I just say I’m so happy for my oppas? Especially for Son who scored the second goal? #COYS Hahahahahahaha!

Son Heung-Min’s brand value has increased by over 7% after scoring in South Korea’s win over Germany.
South Korea are now out of the World Cup, however Son has the highest brand value of any Asian footballer in the world. 👏#WorldCup #KOR #KORGER #COYS pic.twitter.com/l2GXJtzPQF
