Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has confirmed that he will return to Tottenham for pre-season training. The Belgian has been linked with a move away to Manchester United but it seems he will be preparing for the new season to remain at Tottenham.
The Belgian international was quoted by the Metro as saying:
“I will return to London this weekend for the start of pre-season with my club.”
The 29-year-old has 12 months remaining on his current Tottenham deal though we can extend the contract for another year. The extension would then see the player become available for £25m in the following summer. Tottenham have been looking for close to £75m for Alderweireld in this transfer window.
It would take a very special bid now from United to sign the Belgian this summer and that means good news for us. It will be interesting to see how Alderweireld performs this season as he was injured for a major chunk of the last campaign.

While we might lose Alderweireld for just £25m next summer, having him in the defence is a huge lift. The Belgian is one of the best defenders in the world and with him playing alongside Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen, we might have the best defence in the country.
