Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles feels the club cannot afford to lose their head coach and says he would not swap Mauricio Pochettino “for any other manager in the world”. (h/t the Daily Mirror)

“Over the last four or five years, (chairman) Daniel Levy has had to make big commercial decisions about building a new stadium and building a team to fill it,” Ardiles was quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“When you compiled a list of the five biggest clubs in England, Tottenham was probably not among them – on the fringes, in the margins, but not one of the big five – but now they have one of the best training grounds in the world and the new stadium is nearly ready.

“And the biggest decision of all by Daniel was to go out and bring in Mauricio Pochettino as the coach.

“I would not change Mauricio for any manager in the world: Under him, Tottenham has become a contender all the time, we are playing in the Champions League every year and last year we beat Real Madrid in the group.”

Indeed, Pochettino has revolutionized Spurs in every manner. Last season, we finished third in the Premier League, four points behind Manchester United, who ended the campaign as runners-up to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

However, under Pochettino’s guidance, our club have finished above the 20-time English champions in three of the four previous years. Credit to our gaffer for brilliantly managing Tottenham on a limited budget and yet, producing positive results every year.

Although Spurs failed to sign a single player in the summer transfer window, we have started the season well. So, I completely agree with Ardiles’ statement of not swapping Pochettino for any other manager in the world.

Spurs transfer news: Tottenham looking to seal £22m deal with Napoli for Kieran Trippier

The Evening Standard claims that Tottenham could finalise a £22m deal with Napoli for 28-year-old right-back Kieran Trippier after the Champions League final.

Spurs reached the final after beating Ajax over two legs and face Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1.

The report adds that Spurs have blocked all negotiations until after the final, however, there is optimism from all sides that the deal for Trippier can be completed.

The English defender has struggled this season and the report claims that Napoli are aware of the tough negotiation tactics by Daniel Levy.

Getting £22m for a 28-year-old who hasn’t done well this season isn’t a bad deal, and it will be interesting to see if the deal does take place right after the final.

A big decision awaits Pochettino

The report adds that Mauricio Pochettino has a tough decision to make regarding who plays as the right-back against Liverpool.

Trippier had a tough time against Ajax over the two legs, however, he did well in the second half in our 3-2 win over the Dutch giants.

We could play Serge Aurier as the Ivorian has just returned from an injury. Kyle Walker-Peters is the other right-back in the side, but it would be a major surprise if the English youngster starts.

Trippier could play his final game for Spurs on June 1 if the report is true, and it would be great if he can finish his career here with a trophy.

Latest Spurs news: Harry Winks is fit for Champions League final

Sky Sports reports that Harry Winks is fit for the Champions League final on 1st June against Liverpool.

The 23-year-old midfielder last played for us in the 1-0 win over Manchester City in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League.

Harry Winks

Harry Winks

The midfielder was recovering from a groin injury and the report claims that the Englishman trained with Tottenham team for the entire week.

Winks’ return will be a huge boost for manager Mauricio Pochettino as he plans to win his first trophy at Tottenham. The English midfielder has played 39 times for us in all competitions this season, and found the back of the net once.

Pochettino to make a decision on another player

Winks should start for us if he is 100% fit, and the report claims that Pochettino has to take a call on Harry Kane’s role in the final.

Harry Kane

The striker is also closing in on full fitness and trained with some of the players recently.

Kane and Winks returning to the team would be a huge boost, however, the pair is rusty and putting them against a good Liverpool team might be risky.

The Reds beat us twice this season, however, a cup final is difficult to predict. Spurs have a great chance of winning the Champions League and let us hope we pull it off.

Spurs transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino will decide his future after the Champions League final

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino once again spoke about his future and claimed it depended on what the club’s ambitions are.

The Argentine has led Spurs to the final of the Champions League and we are regular top four finishers under the former Southampton manager.

However, Spurs haven’t spent any money in two transfer windows while all our rivals have strengthened their sides.

Spurs finished a distant fourth behind the top two in the Premier League this season, and Poch spoke during an interview with El Partidazo de Cope about learning of Tottenham’s ambitions next season before making a decision (h/t Mirror):

“I will not make decisions about my future (until) after the final, it is important to know what the club’s future plan is.

“If we want to return to the Champions League final next year and fight with Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title, we need reinforcements.”

The manager added that City’s ambition was to win the Champions League while we had to finish the stadium. Spurs moved into their new home a few weeks ago, and the Argentine also provided an update on Real Madrid.

Poch spoke with Perez

The Argentine spoke about his links with Real Madrid and admitted he had been in contact with president Florentino Perez:

“Real Madrid? I have no other goals if I am not training Tottenham; football takes you where you deserve. Ahead of the final, we will train at Valdebebas and sleep in a nearby hotel.

“I asked Florentino to let us sleep in the sports center, but he told me that I can only sleep there when I become the coach of Real Madrid.”

Thankfully, Real have already signed Zinedine Zidane as their manager though the Frenchman left before the start of this season. It would be crazy if they sacked Zidane to replace him with Pochettino, but the Argentine has been linked with Juventus (h/t Mirror) in recent weeks.

The Italian giants decided to part ways with Max Allegri despite the Italian winning the Serie A in every season in charge.

Spurs have to spend to keep hold of Pochettino and hopefully, that does not depend on us lifting the Champions League crown.

Latest Spurs news: Mauricio Pochettino hopeful of Harry Kane return for Champions League final

Mauricio Pochettino has provided some positive news regarding Harry Kane ahead of the Champions League final.

Tottenham play Liverpool in Madrid on 1st June, and Kane has been going through the paces in training after recovering from an ankle injury.

The English striker picked up the problem against Manchester City in the Champions League and has not played since April.

However, Pochettino was speaking at the Bilbao International Football Summit and claimed Kane should play a role in the final (h/t Daily Mail):

“He’s training and has entered the final stage of his recovery.

“We’re hoping he’ll be able to give us a hand – either from the start, from the bench or if not, then by giving us moral support in the dressing room – but we are optimistic that he’ll be able to help us on the pitch.”

More players return to training for Tottenham

Kane returning to first-team would be a huge boost ahead of the final. A couple of other players were pictured training with the Englishman recently.

Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen are also carrying knocks and it is imperative that at least one of the centre-backs is fit to play alongside Toby Alderweireld.

Harry Winks was also seen in training as he continues his rehab from groin surgery, and the players still have a week to get into shape for the final.
