Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Tottenham cannot challenge for silverware unless they improve. Spurs started the Premier League season with three wins but have lost their last two games.
Getting beaten by Watford was a bit of a shock but Liverpool produced a great display at Wembley and left us wondering how many goals we could have lost by.
The Reds missed a number of chances and we were barely in the game until the final minutes.
Pochettino didn’t think the team could do well if they continued in this fashion and was quoted by Sky Sports saying:
“We are not realistic contenders in any single competition, that is my view.
“If we show the same face as against Watford, it’s impossible to be a contender. If we show the face [we showed against] Liverpool, it will be so difficult.”
The manager highlighted our performance against Manchester United as a benchmark and believed the defeats could be a wake-up call for the side.
“The last two defeats are so good but it is a wake-up call and we have to try and improve and we have time. It is only the start of the season.
“We have to show our best and show we deserve to be a contender. We need to be consistent to be a contender.”
The boss wanted the side to improve more and the season has only just begun. Tottenham also play in the Champions League and have a tough group with Inter Milan and Barcelona in the group.

However, we did pretty well in a tough Champions League group last season and maybe this competition can serve as a launchpad for the team to get back to winning ways.
