Nicolo Barella

Tottenham are to make a move for Nicolo Barella of Cagliari in the winter window, according to the Sun.

The Italian midfielder has been dubbed as the next “Steven Gerrard” in Italy, and the report adds that Spurs see him as a replacement for Mousa Dembele.

The Belgian was flown to Qatar for treatment on an ankle injury. Dembele has had his injury concerns at Tottenham and seems to be out for a while after hurting his ankle in our 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 21-year-old Barella has 12 Serie A starts to his name this season with one goal, and even won a couple of Italy caps in the previous international break.

The report adds that Liverpool were interested in the player during the summer, however, the Reds seem to have toned down their interest in the midfielder.

Tottenham are set to offer £35m (h/t Sun) for the 21-year-old and the report adds that Cagliari will only entertain offers of over £30m for their rising star.

Spurs were the only club not to make a summer signing this season, and we should dip into our transfer kitty when the window opens in January.

Tottenham have started the Premier League season well, and bringing in someone like Barella could propel us to a trophy too.

It will be interesting to see how we deal with the January transfer window and hopefully, we can get the Italian youngster to the club.
