Tottenham will battle Arsenal for the signature of Lille winger Nicolas Pepe in the winter window, according to the Times.
The Ivorian is enjoying a fantastic season for Lille with eight goals and five assists from just 13 Ligue 1 appearances.
Pepe is one reason why Les Dogues are second in the table and have only lost three games in the league this season.
The report claims that the winger could be worth £27m and it will be interesting to see if we make a move for the 23-year-old.
Tottenham didn’t sign a single player in the summer window, but we should make some moves in January.
Spending £27m on a player with potential certainly seems a good bet on paper, however, Tottenham have to be wary of some of the deals we have done in the past.
Fernando Llorente, Vincent Janssen, Kevin Wimmer and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou are some of the signings that didn’t work out for us.
Nkoudou was signed from Ligue 1 and we are yet to see the best of the Frenchman, which should serve as ample warning for Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham have done pretty well without any additions from last season but if we are to get better, new players must come in.
Pepe seems to be in the form of his life and could be a brilliant signing for us if we get him on the cheap.
