Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful of playing in the new stadium in early 2019. Spurs have missed a couple of deadlines to move into the new stadium and recently claimed that we would be staying at Wembley till 2018.

Pochettino was speaking before our match against Chelsea, and was quoted by the Independent saying that he visited the stadium:

“Yesterday afternoon we were there, checking the facilities, the changing rooms and everything. We are so excited, we cannot wait to move there. We understand that it is a fantastic project for the future of the club that will be forever.

The manager added that patience is key as we could need to wait for a couple of months or more.

“We are so disappointed because we expect to play in 2018 and it should be ready for play before the end of the year, but that is not going to be possible and we need to wish and hope that in January or February we can move there and it will be a fantastic moment for everyone, the supporters, the players.

“It will be a massive boost.”

Tottenham new stadium

Playing in our new stadium would certainly be great, but we have to ensure the venue is complete before we move in.

We have played almost two complete years in another home stadium, and a few more months won’t hurt.

Spurs have more pressing concerns on Saturday as we play Chelsea in a London derby. We have to win against the Blues if we are to have any chance of winning the Premier League.

Manchester City are five points ahead of us and Wembley will certainly be cheering us as we face the Blues. The venue will also be host to another important clash as we play Inter Milan in the Champions League, where only a win can keep us in the competition.
