Mauricio Pochettino claimed that the games against Chelsea and Inter Milan had a role to play in our 4-2 loss to Arsenal in the North London derby.
Tottenham were outplayed in the second half at the Emirates as the Gunners scored three goals without an answer.
The win lifted the Gunners above us in the Premier League table, and Pochettino told (h/t ESPN) that Spurs were competitive until we conceded the third goal.
“In the second half we started well.
“Until they scored the third goal the game was very competitive. Of course in some periods better for Arsenal, in some periods better for Tottenham.
“But when we conceded a third goal it was tough for us to come back mentally, to find the energy to go, to try to again be in the game.
“Of course in that moment it was very tough for the team, we started to pay there for the Champions League game against Inter and against Chelsea, and we start to suffer.”
The manager conceded that the fourth goal and the sending off of Jan Vertonghen ended our chances in the game, and also claimed that the team could not display the energy they “normally show”.
The loss would come as a huge blow to Spurs given how well we did in our previous clashes. Tottenham’s next clash is against Southampton on Wednesday, and we should see a response from the side.

We cannot take the Saints lightly as they picked up a fighting point against Manchester United on Saturday, but Pochettino will know all about the club having managed Southampton before joining us.
