Mauricio Pochettino has stated that Tottenham have to sell players before they can buy in the winter window.
Spurs were the only side not to sign someone in the summer, and the boss highlighted that we did not have the capacity to bring players in unless some cuts were made (h/t Mirror):
“In case we don’t sell players, it’s impossible to bring players [in]. And to find the capacity to bring [players in].
“Of course, we are going to create again the system to work in the last part of the season in the best way, trying to give our best for this club.”
The Mirror adds that Spurs are looking to offload several players including Mousa Dembele, Fernando Llorente, Victor Wanyama and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.
The Argentine went on to suggest that he would not be disappointed if the club did not sign anyone in January.
“In the same way, if you find some player, look what happened to different players that arrive in January. Last season. It takes time to understand and to perform, to fit with the team.
“Sometimes it’s better not to sign if you don’t find the right player. Sometimes it’s better for the team spirit. But not in general.”
Pochettino has done a wonderful job this season given that he is using the same squad as last season. We sit third in the Premier League just six points behind leaders Liverpool, are in the knockout rounds of the Champions League and have a two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
Spurs could do with some signings to increase the strength of the squad given our fixture congestion in the coming months.
Our manager has been fantastic in ensuring the team keeps pushing on this season, despite a few bumps on the road, and hopefully, we can ship out some of the deadwood and replace them with quality soon.
