Spurs opinion: Victor Camarasa could be the all-round midfielder Spurs need in the summer

Tottenham haven’t been extremely busy in signing players for two transfer windows, and that needs to change in the summer.

Spurs have a decent first-team squad but we lack depth and injuries this season have stretched the side to the limit.

Looking at the midfield, Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Christian Eriksen and Victor Wanyama have all had injury problems this season.

Spurs also sold Mousa Dembele in the winter window and did not replace the Belgian.

Marca (h/t Football.london) reports that Victor Camarasa is a target for Spurs. The Real Betis midfielder is on loan at Cardiff City and has been a decent player for them.

The 24-year-old Spaniard has five goals and three assists to his name this season, and the report adds that he could be sold for a low fee of €15m.

Camarasa could leave Cardiff if they are relegated (h/t Football.london) and he could be a quality squad player for Spurs.

Doing a lot of work in the midfield

Cardiff were always going to be one of the favourites for the drop, and they lie five points from safety with seven games left.

The Bluebirds were close to an unlikely win over Chelsea at the weekend where Camarasa scored, however, some referee decisions went against them and they ended up losing the tie.

The Spaniard has started more Premier League games than the Sissoko, Winks and Dier have done this season. That could do with Mauricio Pochettino mixing things up in the starting XI and injuries coming into play.

Looking at the stats (h/t WhoScored), the 24-year-old Spaniard has more goals and has the same number of assists as the trio of Spurs midfielders combined.

When it comes to defensive work, Camarasa averages more interceptions in the Premier League than the trio, however, Sissoko and Dier complete more tackles than the 24-year-old.

In the attacking end of the pitch, Camarasa does better than Sissoko with more key passes and shots per game.

Dier normally plays as the defensive midfielder and doesn’t join up much in the attack, while Sissoko has been one of the most improved players for Spurs this season.

The Frenchman drives from deep in his own half, while Winks is more about recycling the ball and keeping Spurs ticking.

Camarasa does a bit of everything in the midfield, and at €15m, he would be a snip compared to several decent midfielders in the market.

The Spaniard has Premier League experience under his belt too, and he could be a smart addition to the team.

Camarasa might not be miles better than some of the midfielders we have in the team, however, he could do a quality job when it comes to squad rotation.
