Spurs transfer news: Tottenham eyeing NK Osijek goalkeeper Marko Malenica

According to a report from the Daily Star, Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is set to leave the club this summer, with Paulo Gazzaniga promoted to No.1.

The Daily Star claims Osijek FC shot-stopper Marko Malenica could be brought in to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s goalkeeping ranks. The Croatian would cost as little as £1m but Spurs could be in for a lot of competition from Premier League clubs for his signature this summer, adds the report.

Marko Malenica, 25, has done very well for NK Osijek this season, impressing with his cat-like reflexes and distribution skills. He has made 29 appearances in the HNL this season, keeping nine clean sheets. And his solid form between the sticks has caught the attention of Tottenham, who are willing to let go of Lloris at the end of the season.

A poor season for Hugo Lloris in goal

Lloris is regarded as one of Premier League’s best goalkeepers. He is closing in on 300 appearances in all competitions since his 2012-move from Lyon. This season, however, the Frenchman’s form has been inconsistent, with the 32-year-old making costly errors.

After helping France lift the World Cup in Russia last summer, Lloris has struggled royally between the sticks and made a big blunder against Liverpool to cost Spurs a crucial point as we continue our fight for top four. However, the 32-year-old has since enjoyed three consecutive shutouts in all competitions.

But if we are to challenge for the Premier League title and silverware next season, Pochettino needs to take a bold call by offloading Lloris and replacing the Frenchman with the talented Paulo Gazzaniga. And to back-up Gazzaniga, signing Marko Malenica would certainly be a step in the right direction for Spurs.
