Eriksen gets 7.5, Vertonghen a 7 – How the Tottenham players fared in the 1-0 win over Brighton

Tottenham vs Brighton ratings: Tottenham player ratings

Brighton came to the new Tottenham stadium with a plan and it worked for most of the evening.

Spurs were frustrated by the doggedness of Chris Hughton’s side as they kept us out from finding the back of the net.

Tottenham had their chances but the post, and some great defending kept the score at 0-0 till the 88th minute.

Christian Eriksen, who had been frustrated by the defensive nature of the away side, smacked home the winner from outside the box to give us some breathing room in the race for the top four. Spurs are now three points clear of fourth-placed Chelsea with three games remaining.

Tottenham face West Ham at home on Saturday before their Champions League clash against Ajax on Tuesday.

This win should give us more confidence ahead of the two games, and here are the player ratings from last night’s tie.

Tottenham player ratings

Hugo Lloris – 6/10

The Frenchman didn’t have much to do in the game and was barely troubled by the Brighton attack.

Kieran Trippier – 6/10

Trippier looked decent at the back and kept Brighton in check from his side, however, he didn’t do much in the final third.

Toby Alderweireld – 7/10

The centre-back barely put a foot wrong in the game and was unlucky to see his spinning effort come off the post in the second half.

Jan Vertonghen – 7/10

Alderweireld’s partner at the back didn’t have much to do. He did have a shot early on in the game which was blocked in front of the Brighton goal.

Danny Rose – 6.5/10

Rose had an excellent shot saved by Mat Ryan in the second half. The Englishman made a great tackle to deny Brighton from scoring early.

Christian Eriksen – 7.5/10

Eriksen was testing his range throughout the evening and finally got his reward with the late goal. The Dane was one of our best players on the night and helped us gain a valuable win.

Victor Wanyama – 6/10

The Kenyan did his bit in the middle of the pitch and kept the Brighton midfield in check.

Dele Alli – 6/10

Alli had a chance to score in the first half but could not put Spurs ahead. The Englishman didn’t have a great showing in the attack.

Lucas Moura – 5.5/10

Moura didn’t fare too well despite having a couple of shots at the Brighton goal early on. The Brazilian was surprisingly replaced by Vincent Janssen.

Fernando Llorente – 5/10

The saviour against Manchester City in the Champions League, Llorente was below par against the Seagulls and should have used his physicality more.

Son Heung-min – 5.5/10

Son wasn’t shining bright last night as he struggled to make an impact against the Seagulls.

Substitutes

Vincent Janssen – 5/10

Janssen got his first minutes of the season and had a couple of telling touches in the game.

Ben Davies – NA

Provided Spurs with a little extra down the left after replacing Wanyama.
