Spurs transfer news: Tottenham interested in Coutinho but need to sell Eriksen

ESPN reports that Tottenham are interested in signing Philippe Coutinho, with Arsenal not in the picture for the Brazilian.

Coutinho joined Barcelona 18 months ago but struggled last season at the Nou Camp.

The Brazilian has been offered to Spurs and Manchester United, but Tottenham are more likely to sign the 27-year-old (h/t ESPN).

The report adds that a move to Tottenham won’t be easy as Spurs need to sell Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham would also need to fail in their attempts to sign Bruno Fernandes and Giovani Lo Celso, and then there is the problem with the finances (h/t ESPN).

Coutinho makes a lot of money at Barcelona

The Brazilian was one of the best in the Premier League when he left Liverpool and the report claims that he makes £290,000 per-week at Barcelona.

Coutinho would have to take a pay cut if he intends to join Spurs, and Barcelona signed the Brazilian for £120m (rising to £160m) from Liverpool (h/t ESPN).

The Catalans want to send Coutinho to the Premier League before the end of the transfer window, and a loan move is the last option for the La Liga giants, according to the report.

There is interest from Paris Saint-Germain too, with Barcelona keen on re-signing Neymar (h/t ESPN).

Coutinho could be a great signing for any Premier League club but we should not spend an obscene amount of money on the Brazilian.

The former Liverpool star has struggled at Barca, and he would be a bit of a risky signing, especially due to his high wages.

Mauricio Pochettino worked with Coutinho during his time at Espanyol, and it will be interesting to see what other deals we have lined up before the end of the transfer window.
