Daniel Levy claims Tottenham could have spent more but couldn’t guarantee results

Tottenham made four signings in the summer window after going through two windows without adding players.

Spurs spent big to land Tanguy Ndombele while Ryan Sessegnon, Jack Clarke and Giovani Lo Celso should all be great signings in the coming years.

The quartet is below the age of 23 and has the potential to improve further. However, there has been one major issue with the signings – injuries.

Apart from Clarke, who is on loan at Leeds United, all the others have been injured this season. Tottenham’s campaign hasn’t started off well either, with the club suffering some poor results.

Some of the players haven’t been at their best this season and Daniel Levy recently spoke about the club’s potential to spend more. The chairman told the Financial Times (h/t Daily Star) that they could have signed more players but there weren’t any guarantees with the results:

“We could have easily spent more money on players. Who knows if that would have bought us more success or not?

“The right approach is to build from the bottom up. There is no quick fix to becoming a much more significant global club.”

The shift to the new stadium was delayed last season but the investment had to be made as a state-of-the-art ground was needed.

More signings to help Spurs?

Tottenham could have done with a few more signings in the summer to replace stars such as Danny Rose. They could have also signed a replacement for Kieran Trippier, who joined Atletico Madrid.

However, Spurs have seen what happens when too many players are signed in one window. The money from Gareth Bale’s sale was used to bring in several players and the team just did not click.
