Former club director has incredible Daniel Levy story regarding transfers
Daniel Levy always drives a hard bargain when negotiating transfers.
The Tottenham chairman has been able to broker some huge deals for us, with the likes of Luka Modric and Roberto Soldado joining us in the past and was at it again when we nabbed Tanguy Ndombele this summer.
Levy certainly has some great stories regarding his wheeling-dealing ways, and former Dinamo Zagreb executive director Zdarvko Mamic had one brilliant incident to share.
The former Zagreb man spoke about Modric’s move to Spurs in 2008 and told FourFourTwo (h/t Football.london) that Levy charged him for a few jerseys:
“Levy is, in my opinion, the most capable negotiator in the world. I had enough time to experience it and appreciate him.
“One funny story, but at the same time a story that shows how he protects the interests of his club, is that after we agreed the transfer of Luke to Tottenham, I politely asked for five of Luka’s jerseys.
“Levy gave them to me. but the invoice for the transfer, €23m (£20.3m), was minus the value of the jerseys. That was quite unbelievable to me. It showed me how to appreciate every penny a club spends.”
Levy a tough nut to crack
Modric turned out to be an incredible signing for us but this story of Levy proves that he won’t lose any money over a deal.
The chairman might have saved a few pounds with this move but it was great for us to finally spend in this transfer window.
Signing four players after two barren windows was the least we could have done, but Spurs have struggled for consistency this season.
We lost to Leicester at the weekend and have had injury problems too. It will be interesting to see how the coming months go, and what our plans are for the winter window.

Spurs could do with a few more players and surely, Levy will get us the best deal should we target a player.
