Lionel Messi blocked Christian Eriksen’s move to Barcelona
Barcelona star Lionel Messi blocked a summer move which would have seen Christian Eriksen join the Catalan giants.
El Desmarque reports that Barcelona was the preference for Eriksen in the summer, however, Messi blocked the deal which would have seen two players move to Tottenham (h/t Express).
Talks were held between Spurs and Barcelona over a deal where Ivan Rakitic and Carles Alena would have come to Tottenham (h/t Express).
However, Messi voted against the deal as he believed that Eriksen didn’t work enough in tough situations, according to the report. Eriksen is a free agent at the end of this season and wanted a move after the Champions League final loss to Liverpool (h/t Express).
The Dane’s numbers don’t look good this season
Eriksen has only one goal and one assist to his name this season. Tottenham have also struggled this season and have just one win from their last six games in all competitions.
We lost 2-1 to Liverpool, and our 1-1 draw with Everton sees us sit 11th in the league. Eriksen can sign a pre-contract deal with a foreign club in the winter window, and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the coming months.
