It was not a happy new year for Spurs as we lost both Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele to injuries. The night got off to a bad start when Tanguy Ndombele had to be taken off with a groin injury.

Mourinho bemoaned the Frenchman’s lack of fitness and accused him of always being injured. He was critical of the midfielder and did not lose the opportunity to take a dig.

‘I cannot say that he is injured because in five minutes we start a training session that you could watch from the stands and he will be training normally,’

Mourinho had earlier expressed his displeasure when Ndombele controversially missed the Boxing day fixture against Brighton as he was ‘not in a condition’ to play. Today’s events will not have pleased the gaffer.

Ndombele is Tottenham’s record signing after he cost €60m. He has failed to live up to the tag and has missed a lot of games due to injuries.

He has been impressive every time he has played and has brought about power and drive to the Spurs midfield. The unavailability of such a talent would be a source of frustration for any manager, particularly when the rest of the team lacks such attributes.

Let’s hope Mourinho doesn’t have a falling out with Ndombele. Prior to joining Spurs, Ndombele boasted a healthy fitness record at Lyon. Hopefully, the 23-year-old is given the time to recover completely so that Mourinho can deploy him on a consistent basis once he is ready.
