Taking questions prior to the match against Norwich City, Mourinho took the opportunity to reply to the player’s accusations. Rather than try to sidestep the issue, the Portuguese manager came out in defence of himself.
Mourinho pointed out that in the absence of Ben Davies, a number of players received opportunities to impress at left-back. One of them is Rose.
The boss went on to elaborate that the 19-year-old defender played in matches against Liverpool, Olympiacos and Bayern Munich. The Portuguese asserted that Rose has indeed been given enough opportunities to impress.
A veteran, Rose has been angling for a move since last summer. With the player experiencing a lack of playing time under Mourinho, he chose to join Newcastle United on loan in January.
The defender revealed on BBC Radio 5 (h/t Standard) that he knew his time at the club was up within a month of Mourinho’s arrival. he then went on to accuse the manager of not giving him enough opportunities.
In the presser, Mourinho left it to the press to decide if the player delivered on his opportunities or not.
