Jose Mourinho praises Giovani Lo Celso showing against Leipzig
On a night where it was a collective disappointment, individuals stepped up to the fore. Giovani Lo Celso was one such player who shone brighter than the rest as Jose Mourinho’s Spurs fell 1-0 to Leipzig at home.
With no strikers to call upon and an in-form Heung-Min Son also out injured, Mourinho was forced to opt for a makeshift attack. It largely failed to deliver but the performances of some key personnel will have pleased the Portuguese.
Having joined the club on loan in the summer, Lo Celso initially struggled with form and injury. The player has impressed following a regular run of games, leading to him being signed on a permanent basis in January.

Mourinho praised the midfielder for his ability to play through the middle while also touching upon his impressive temperament despite getting yellow carded early on.
Lo Celso shifted to the right as Mourinho rung in the changes in the second half. It did not alter his performance as the Argentinian kept impressing. This was not lost on the manager and Mourinho praised the playmaker for getting better after his arrival.
“He’s had an incredible evolution since I arrived”
The midfielder went close with a brilliant freekick in the second half. Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi could only push it onto the post with a desperate dive in what was Tottenham’s closest attempt on the night.
