Twitter reacts to Dele Alli getting charged by FA for misconduct
Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct for his social media post regarding the coronavirus outbreak. (h/t The Guardian)
Alli posted a video on Snapchat while singling out an Asian man at an airport. The FA wrote to him asking for his observations and have decided to charge him with misconduct (h/t The Guardian).
According to the FA statement, the midfielder’s post breaches FA Rule E3(1) as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute (h/t The Guardian).
The midfielder also ran foul of FA Rule E3(2), “as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin and/or nationality (h/t The Guardian).
Once the outrage started pouring in Alii deleted the video and apologized on the Chinese networking platform ‘Weibo’ for his insensitivity. He has been given time till 5 March 2020 to provide a response to these charges (h/t The Guardian).
