Tottenham Hotspur Stadium nominated for two awards
Our impressive new home, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, has impressed both fans and rivals since its opening last year. The arena could now be set for more fame after being nominated for two Stadium of the Year awards, put on by StadiumDB.com. (h/t Football.London)
The Stadium of the Year has now been running for a decade is a non-commercial initiative that is aimed at appreciating the best stadiums opened every year. It is not just limited to the famous ones.
Tottenham are in the running for both the Jury Award and the Public award. The former was created to celebrate the best architectural work, while the latter celebrates the stadiums that generate the most enthusiasm.
Competition from the world’s best
Our home faces competition from 21 stadiums spread over 19 nations. Some of the contenders include the Tokyo 2020 Olympics stadium, Hungary’s monumental Puskas Arena in Budapest and Moscow’s VTB Arena.
If we win, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be the second stadium from London to win the Jury Award. The London Stadium has won the same award first in 2017.
The decision for the Jury Award is taken in two phases. Firstly, a jury of stadium architects will select 10 finalists and secondly, the winner is chosen from these finalists.
The jury for this year consists of some of the biggest names in stadium architecture such as Bence Pottyondy, John Rhodes, John Roberts and Antonino Vultaggio.
Can I have a say?
Yes. Tottenham fans can have a say in where the Public award ends up.
The award is given out through an online vote. Anyone interested can cast a vote with users having to select five stadiums by giving 5 stars to the best one, 4 stars to the second-best and so on. The voting remains open until 11 pm UK time on March 15th.
Both the awards are expected to be announced on March 18th. Anyone interested in making the public vote can make use of this link.
