Ian Wright believes Troy Parrott should be given more opportunities
Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that teenager Troy Parrott should be given more opportunities in the absence of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, according to BBC Match of the Day 2 (h/t Football.London).
Tottenham have played without a specialist striker upfront since Kane injured himself against Southampton in January. Son did an admirable job as a replacement and scored a number of important goals.
The injury to the 27-year-old was a hammer blow with neither Steven Bergwijn or Lucas Moura able to match the South Korean’s numbers.
Tottenham now have just one recognized striker in the squad, 18-year-old Irishman Troy Parrott. The youngster came on in the dying minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers to ironic cheers from the crowd.
After the match, Jose Mourinho reiterated his belief that the youngster isn’t ready to lead the line yet. Wright, however, believes that the Portuguese is wrong in his assessment and should give Parrott a chance. The former English star believes that the 18-year-old can add spark to an attack that has failed to impress.
“You are looking for a spark”
Know what you have!
Wright believes that it is well worth throwing in the player to see what he is capable of. He took examples of Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane who broke through at a young age to elucidate the potential effect Parrot can have on the team.
Playing Parrot could lead to different possibilities and it always helps to have a specialist in the position. The natural instinct the young striker brings will be more in tune with the position when compared to a makeshift doing the same.
Wright was flabbergasted at what exactly Parrott was supposed to do in three minutes and urged Mourinho to give him a longer run out to gauge his worth.

Tottenham were once again unable to take advantage of Chelsea’s slip up as we let the lead slip twice at home against Wolves. The club are now five points off top four having lost both of our games against fellow top-four rivals.
Hopefully, these results won’t be the difference between us finishing in fourth.
