Jan Vertonghen sends message to fans following house break-in
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has taken to social media to thank fans for their support following the news of his house being broken into.
The incident occurred when the player was away with the team at Leipzig. Vertonghen’s wife and two kids who were at home at the time are thankfully unhurt from the ordeal.
The veteran defender confirmed that his family is still in shock and is unhurt. He also refused to give more details on the robbery and preferred to keep it private.
“I’m fine. It was a great shock to the whole family of course, but it is what it is. I’m not going to tell you what was stolen. We want to keep everything private.”
Following an outpour of supportive messages, he took to Instagram to send a message to his fans. He made use of Instagram stories to thank everyone for their kind wishes and stressed on the importance of one’s family.
“Thanks, everyone for the kind messages! Family is everything! Stay safe!”
Investigation underway
A police spokesperson confirmed that they responded to a burglary complaint on the morning of March 10 at the player’s residence. They confirmed that a number of items were missing and that none was injured. So far, no arrests have been made.
A Tottenham Hotspur spokesman voiced the club’s support to the player and his family, and has urged people with any information to come forward and share it with the relevant authorities.
Vertonghen’s wife Sophie De Vries and their two children were at home at around 8 pm when four robbers armed with machetes and knives broke in. The player’s wife did as she was told and the robbers carried out a search before decamping with electronic items.

The veteran defender is currently in the last few months of his Tottenham contract. There has not been any indication about a contract extension. He is currently being linked with Inter Milan.
