Eric Dier escapes punishment for confronting fan post-Norwich loss
According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has escaped further punishment for confronting a fan following the FA Cup clash to Norwich City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Although he will escape legal action, it is still possible that Dier will face a ban against playing football.
The incident occurred after the full-time whistle when the player went into the crowd to confront a supporter who had made a beeline for the player’s younger brother.
Stewards were forced to intervene and separate the involved parties in an incident that received much attention.
The Metropolitan Police who looked into the incident has deemed that no further action is necessary.
“The investigation concluded with no further action.”
The incident came at the back of Spurs being knocked out of the FA Cup by the Canaries. Tensions were high forcing the Dier’s brother to take exception at insults being directed at the player.
Pretty understandable considering Dier was actually one of our better players on the night and warranted no criticism for his performance.
Understandable but unnecessary!
To be fair, Dier’s actions are relatable. It is only human nature to want to protect one’s family and certain fans can be very nasty with their hatred after losses.
However, with great power comes great responsibility. In retrospect, there are a number of different things he could’ve done instead of charging headlong to confront his accuser.
The player’s actions were deemed unprofessional but understandable by Spurs manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese publicly backed the player’s motive if not his actions.

It remains to be seen if he will face further action by the FA. Dier has been one of our best players since the turn of the year and any retrospective ban is sure to hurt us.
