Tottenham fans react to Mario Gotze speculations after Dortmund exit confirmed
Mario Gotze has confirmed that he will be leaving Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires at the end of the season (h/t Evening Standard).
The 27-year-old German, once tipped as the next best thing in football, has failed to live up to the potential he had shown in the early years of his career. Having broken through the Dortmund first-team under Jurgen Klopp in 2010, Gotze played an important role in the German outfit’s success in the Bundesliga.
Gotze joined Bayern Munich in 2013, but returned to Dortmund three years later, after having failed to make the desired impact in Bavaria. Poor form, coupled with serious health issues have meant that the 27-year-old’s career has been pretty much on a downward spiral for a number of years now.
The German is now set to end his second stint at Borussia Dortmund, having decided not to extend his contract (h/t Evening Standard).
Tottenham Hotspur had been linked with a move for the 27-year-old during the January transfer window (h/t Express). While a move did not materialize then, now that Gotze will be a free agent in the summer, it has gotten the fans speculating if our club should make a move for the German before next summer.
Naturally, the possibility of signing Gotze has drawn mixed reactions from the supporters. Some fans are in favour, given that he will cost us nothing and is still only 27. But there are some who feel that he is too injury prone and not worth taking a punt on. Here are some of the fan reactions to Gotze’s availability in the summer;
Always injured! = Steer Clear

He will contribute a lot to the club improving the team

He would be a great sign
In one condition only, only if Mourinho can get the best out of him
Because after he made his debut to Bayern his performance decreased year by year— ცვ (@71_maaraj) April 10, 2020

Gotze has endured another difficult season at Dortmund. The 27-year-old has made just 13 Bundesliga appearances in 2019/20, although he has chipped in with three goals.
