Thomas Meunier is a free agent at the end of this season
Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier is a free agent at the end of the season, with Tottenham interested in his services, according to the Daily Star.
The versatile defender can play as a right-back and a centre-back. Meunier has spent four years at PSG and has a couple of Ligue 1 titles under his belt.
The 28-year-old has also won several domestic trophies during his time in the French capital. Meunier is keen on remaining with the Ligue 1 giants but PSG haven’t opened negotiations with the Belgian international (h/t Daily Star).
Tottenham have increased their efforts to land the player, according to the report, but there are several clubs keen to land the 28-year-old.
Tottenham’s right-back issues
Meunier joining on a free transfer would be a great move given that we sold Kieran Trippier at the start of the season.
The Englishman joined Atletico Madrid after a tough campaign with Spurs. Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters were the two options we had for this role. However, things haven’t worked out well for both of them.
Aurier has been in and out of the team throughout the season. Walker-Peters joined Southampton on loan in the winter window. Tottenham didn’t sign any defenders in the winter window too, and we need to bolster this position in the summer.
The report adds that free transfers could be the best bet for Daniel Levy in the summer. The coronavirus pandemic has affected almost every sports team in the world, and our chairman spoke about needing to keep a check on the finances of the club due to the virus.
Spurs face another problem in the defence, with Jan Vertonghen also out of a contract in the summer.

Should the Belgian leave, we would be in a precarious position without a lot of cover in central defence too.
