Tottenham are unlikely to sign replacement for Hugo Lloris this summer
Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace veteran custodian Hugo Lloris in the summer transfer window. This is according to Sky Sports’ Thomas Lyall.
Our club captain Lloris has been well below his best in the 2019/20 season. The Frenchman has made a string of high-profile errors that have cost the team this term.
This had led to speculations that Jose Mourinho was eyeing to bring in a new goalkeeper in the summer. A number of names had been linked as well, starting with Lille’s Mike Maignan to Ajax’s Andre Onana.
However, Sky Sports editor Thomas Lyall has claimed that Spurs are unlikely to invest in a new goalkeeper this summer due to the costs that will be involved in bringing a top goalkeeper (h/t Sky Sports).
“In better financial circumstances, Spurs may have looked at replacing the 33-year-old after a string of errors, but that looks unlikely now and the skipper still has two years left on his contract.”
Lloris has been one of our best players for a large part of the last decade. Having signed from Lyon in 2012, the 33-year-old grew into one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

During the 2019/20 campaign, however, the Frenchman has shown signs of age catching up with him. Lloris missed a large chunk of the season with an elbow injury. When fit and playing, our captain has been sub-par, having conceded 30 goals in 18 matches in all competitions. He has managed only 2 clean sheets.
With backup goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga also not convincing, it remains to be seen if Jose Mourinho decides to recruit a new shot-stopper come summer.
