Tottenham Hotspur keen on Porto wonderkid Fabio Silva
According to Calciomercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Porto prodigy Fabio Silva.
The 17-year-old forward, who is also capable of playing as a number 10, has been likened to football legend Cristiano Ronaldo. His performances have seen a number of clubs across Europe turn their attention towards him.
The youngster started his career at Porto before moving to arch-rivals Benfica. He returned to the Estadio do Dragao two years later in 2017. His prolific form for the Porto Under 19 side, he was called up by manager Sergio Conceicao to train with the first-team.
Silva would go on to become the youngest player in club history to represent the club both domestically and in Europe. He beat former stars Bruno Gama and Ruben Neves to reach the respective milestones.
He would go on to overshadow another of Neves’ record by becoming the club’s youngest ever goalscorer. Silva achieved that feat in the club’s 5-0 win over SC Coimbroes in the Taca de Portugal. He went on to further erase Neves’ name from the record books as he also surpassed the player to become the club’s youngest league goalscorer.
He has so far made 18 appearances for the senior side and scored three goals and two assists. His performances have seen him grab the attention of Juventus, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid.
Atletico already have a Portuguese wonderkid in their ranks – Joao Felix. Silva has a release clause worth £107million. According to the report, he could go for around half that price. It still represents a considerable fee for a 17-year-old who is still taking his first steps up the footballing pyramid.
More pressing concerns
Jose Mourinho made his name managing Porto in the early 2000s. His personal connection with the club could help him gauge a better understanding of the player’s strengths and abilities.
It is very unlikely that Tottenham will sanction such a fee for a player who is as yet unproven. A loan deal is one that could be explored if we are keen to take a closer look. Spurs are in need of immediate strengthening elsewhere, relegating Silva lower down the list of priorities.

It is easy to tag a talented player as the next superstar. Not everyone makes the step up, as many of them fall by the wayside.
It is too early to know if Silva is the real deal. If he turns out half as good as Ronaldo, Spurs would have done well to get him.
