Agent of Harry Kane in touch with a number of clubs

The era of Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur could be coming to an end. According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Express), the striker’s agent is currently in touch with several clubs regarding a move for the England captain.

Kane opened a pandora’s box when he refused to commit his future to Tottenham. The striker revealed he is not averse to moving away if it means he will win more trophies.

Speculation regarding his future has only intensified since, with Manchester United emerging as the possible destination.

According to the report, the player’s agent has sounded out the availability of the player to gauge which clubs will be interested in making a move. Possible destinations for the player include some of Europe’s biggest names such as Barcelona, United, Juventus, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

Levy holding the right cards?

One hurdle in their attempts could be Daniel Levy’s valuation of £150million for the striker. The player’s prolific form in front of goal convinced Tottenham to hand the player a lucrative six-year deal.

Penned in 2018, it expires only in 2024. This gives Levy a strong bargaining chip when it comes to negotiations. Given the club’s financial situation amidst the coronavirus crisis, you can count on Levy to not back down on the price.

The fact is not lost on Kane and his representatives. They feel the player’s high valuation makes sorting out a deal impossible in the current financial climate. A figure closer to £100million has been touted as more realistic.

Kane is a prolific goalscorer one of the best strikers in the world. His ambition to win more trophies is understandable.

At the same time, one must also question his commitment to helping Spurs do so. We made it to the final of the Champions League last season, a match we ended up losing. Kane was among the least effective players on the pitch as Liverpool ran away with the match.

Whether Spurs will be better off without the striker or not remains to be seen but it is always better to let go of an asset who has his heart set elsewhere rather than have it affect team morale.

Tottenham have a fight on their hands to keep Kane but as Liverpool have shown, losing your most marketable asset can be counterbalanced by reinvesting the amount smartly. Considering those players made the difference for them in the final in Madrid, Spurs will do well to copy it.
