Willian has not held talks regarding a move to Liverpool

According to Football.london, Chelsea midfielder Willian has not held talks with Liverpool regarding a move to Anfield.

The Brazilian midfielder is in the last days of his contract at Chelsea and can leave the club on a free once it expires. Willian is keen on extending at Chelsea, but has baulked at the club’s terms and is ready to make a move. It was reported that Liverpool had offered the player favourable terms (h/t Metro).

Thankfully that doesn’t appear to be the case and there has been no contact between both parties (h/t Football.london).

Tottenham are one of the possible destinations for the 31-year-old veteran. The Brazilian shares a good relationship with Mourinho having played under him at Chelsea.

Willian could have been our player back in 2013 only. Tottenham were on the verge of signing the player and also had a medical arranged. Chelsea swooped in to steal him from our grasp in the last moment much to the chagrin of Daniel Levy.

Seven years later, we could finally land our man.

An established quantity

Now a proven quantity in the Premier League, Willian can slot directly into our squad without any bedding-in period. Given his familiarity with Mourinho’s tactics, it will make it all the easier.

Willian had earlier admitted to his preference for staying in England. This should give us a good shot at landing him. A versatile operator, Willian is capable of playing in a variety of positions. He is vastly experienced in the Premier League and has made 226 appearances in the competition.

The 31-year-old has an eye for goal, which will hold us in good stead.

At 31, Willian is not a long term option. However, there are few better stop-gap options available at this point of time, especially for free.

Landing a player of his experience and quality on a Bosman, especially in the current financial climate should be a no-brainer for Spurs.
