Jan Vertonghen offers to send personalized birthday message for a noble cause
According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is busy making use of his free time to raise money for charity.
He has started an initiative where fans receive a short video message online from him in exchange for a nominal fee of £78 with all proceeds going to charity. The Belgian is donating funds to his own foundation which currently has a 5-star rating on the Cameo website.
The Spurs star is using it to increase income for the Jan Vertonghen Foundation that he founded earlier in his career. Inspired by his visit to Amsterdam hospital VUmc, the Belgian eventually launched the foundation around his 100th international appearance (h/t Daily Star).
“For me the Foundation is a special way to appreciate how fortunate I have been, being a football player. And to give something in return for all the support I have received from Belgium during my football career.”
The Spurs veteran is out of contract in the summer and is yet to commit his future to the club. He admits that he is aware of the power he holds as a free agent, given the impact the coronavirus has had on finances (h/t Daily Star).
“A lot of clubs don’t have the money to do transfers. So players like me, who are free, are more coveted than ever before.”
He confirmed that he intends to continue playing at the top level for a few more years. There is no shortage of takers as a number of clubs have come forward with serious proposals (h/t Daily Star).
“I want to sign with the right club. It could be Spurs or another club.”
