Transfer News: Tottenham to battle London duo for this prolific Ligue 1 attacker

Tottenham Hotspur keen to beat off Chelsea and West Ham United to Serhou Guirassy

According to French outlet Le10 Sport (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur have identified Amiens SC’s Serhou Guirassy as a transfer target for the upcoming window.

Spurs, however, will not have a clear run at the striker with both Chelsea and West Ham also keen. Obtaining the 24-year-old should be a priority considering our lack of depth up front.

Harry Kane is the only senior striker, leaving us found wanting in his absence. The situation has existed for two seasons now and has proven costly this time around. With Kane sidelined since January, Spurs could end up missing out on the top four this season.

According to the report, Spurs have enquired about the player. Amiens are hoping to receive £17million in return for the player. West Ham are currently at the head of the queue for Guirassy’s signature. The Hammers have already begun negotiations with respect to a summer transfer.

With Tottenham’s finances hit, Daniel Levy is willing to sanction only loans and swap deals. This could put us in a distinct disadvantage when it comes to making our move.

A difference-maker

The 23-year-old rose to fame in the 4-4 draw against Paris Saint-Germain. He scored twice including a stoppage-time equalizer as the French minnows held the defending champions.

The player was involved in all four of his team’s goals and could have bagged himself a hat-trick had it not been for Keylor Navas’ legs. He had scored nine goals and one assist in 23 games in the French top-flight before the season came to a premature end.

Guirassy is a player who has an eye for goal and can be counted on to act as an able deputy. He is likely to receive more game time at West Ham and it remains to be seen if he is fine with a place on the bench.

The 23-year-old had previously drawn interest from the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth and even Manchester United, while the likes of Leicester City, Aston Villa and Celtic are also keeping tabs. (h/t Daily Mail)

The French football season came to a premature end due to the coronavirus crisis. Amiens was one of the two teams relegated. The decision has not gone down well, with the club launching a petition “to demand justice” after being relegated from the French top-flight before the season could be completed. (h/t BBC)

What effect this has on prospective transfers remains to be seen.
