Tottenham planning to offer Serge Aurier a new contract
According to a report from French publication Le10Sport (h/t TranSpurs), Tottenham Hotspur are planning to offer a new contract to right-back Serge Aurier.
Aurier has been with the club almost three years now and is the undisputed first-choice right-back currently following the summer departure of Kieran Trippier. The 27-year-old has made 33 appearances in 2019/20, chipping in with two goals and seven assists in all competitions.
The Ivory Coast international has impressed going forward, but has been a huge liability defensively. His mistakes at the back have hurt Tottenham on multiple occasions this season. As a result, there had been some speculations surrounding his future, with AC Milan reportedly interested in signing him.
However, as per the report, Tottenham are set to offer him a new contract. Aurier’s current deal expires in the summer of 2022, but Spurs seem keen on securing his future beyond that period. (h/t TranSpurs)
This development was met with a mixed reaction from the Tottenham supporters with quite a few feeling that it was a good move, while there were many against such a decision.
Reactions
I know people are critical of Serge but he’s perfect for Jose’s 3/4 at the back tactic

Makes sense, reduced funds for a while, he’s decent on his day

If we get either Aarons or Meunier to compete with him then that’s fine

Massively improved going forward but constantly putting Sanchez in bad positions where his decision making leads to errors or making Sissoko cover rb. Oh and reckless challenges in the box 😫
