Van de beek is a product of the Ajax youth academy. The 23-year-old midfielder is one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe, after enjoying back-to-back spectacular seasons with the Dutch outfit.
The Dutchman was one of Ajax’s best players last season as they won the Eredivisie title, while also making it to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where Tottenham famously dumped them out. He had scored against our club in the first leg of the semi-finals.
The 23-year-old carried on from where he left off last season, producing a return of 10 goals and 11 assists in 37 matches across all competitions in 2019/20.
Recently, van de Beek’s agent Guido Albers had confirmed that our club was interested in signing the midfielder this summer. (h/t Football.london)
“There is interest – and that is also known – for a long time and from several clubs. We will see what will eventually come out of that in the coming weeks.”
And now, Ajax sporting director Edwin van der Sar has claimed that the Netherlands international will be allowed to leave. He admitted that there was an agreement between the player and the club for him to be sold in 2020. (h/t Football.london)
“Last year, we made verbal agreements with [Andre] Onana, [Nicolas] Tagliafico and Van de Beek to stay another season, and then we look to help each other and find the next step in their careers. Nothing has changed.”

This ought to come as music to the ears of Tottenham fans. Van de Beek is a complete midfielder and without a doubt, would be an excellent addition to our squad.
But given the interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League and Europe, signing him might prove to be a touch difficult.
