Tottenham Hotspur enter the race for Lazio superstar Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Le Aquile sporting director Igli Tare openly admitted that it is up to the Serbian international if he wants to stay in Rome. It suggests that the club won’t get in his way if he so chooses to leave.
Tare’s comments are in stark contrast to Lazio’s previous stance that the player was not for sale. He is unlikely to come cheap though, with the Italians expecting at least £80m for the Serbian.
The Serbian has been one of Lazio’s best players as Simone Inzaghi’s side have mounted a spirited title challenge to dethrone Juventus. The 25-year-old scored 5 goals and 7 assists in 31 appearances for the Italians before the season was suspended.
A complete midfielder, he will add much-needed quality to our squad. With Moussa Sissoko turning 30 and Tanguy Ndombele failing to impress, the Serbian will be an excellent addition.
The major issue will be the quoted price. Such a price will see us comfortably break the club record fee we paid for Ndombele only last summer. However, it would represent a considerable layout, especially given our current financial troubles.
With the stadium loan and pending transfer dues set to be paid, Spurs are set to be hit hard by the current financial loss of revenue. It has to be said that, at this price, he is out of our reach.
