Rafael van der Vaart reveals his top three goals for Tottenham Hotspur

Rafael van der Vaart spent just two seasons at White Hart Lane. In spite of such a brief stay, he left a lasting impression on the club and its fans.

The Dutch maestro ended up scoring 28 goals and 18 assists in 77 games for us. Having taken over the club’s social media channels for an hour today, VDV went on to select his top three goals for the club. Take a look at the Dutchman’s choices from the video posted on Youtube.

He started off with his penalty against Arsenal in the famous 3-2 win against our North London rivals in 2010. The Dutchman showed nerves of ice as he cooly dispatched the ball from the penalty spot to draw us level. VDV made it a habit of scoring against our arch-rivals, endearing him well to the fans.

His second selection was his delicious lob over the Liverpool defence in the 2-0 win at Anfield in 2011. Scored at the Kop End, his goal showcased the chasm that existed between both Champions League hopefuls at that point in time. Given that was our last win at Anfield, the goals takes a special significance.

VDV ‘s best was against Aston Villa at Villa Park in the 2-1 win in 2010. A well-taken brace by the Dutch international turned the game on its head and gave Spurs a hard-fought win. Aaron Lennon’s cross was headed down by Peter Crouch before VDV showed some deft footwork and awareness to calmly slot the ball home.

The Dutchman’s goals left a lasting impression on the fans who witnessed him in action. A technically-gifted player who played for the badge, it is a shame we had him at the club for such a brief period.
