West Ham United not keen to swap Declan Rice for Eric Dier
According to Bleacher Report (h/t Football.london), West Ham United are not keen on a swap deal with Tottenham Hotspur involving Declan Rice and Eric Dier.
Tottenham were keen on bringing in the 21-year-old Hammers star to North London and were willing to part with Eric Dier and cash to make it happen. It now appears that our London rivals are not interested in such a deal. (h/t Football.london)
Both players occupy similar positions for their teams. Predominantly defensive midfielders, they are also capable of playing in central defence.
Hammers’s boss David Moyes will be familiar with Dier, having worked with the Englishman at Everton in the 2011-12 season. Although he never went on to make a senior appearance for the Blues, he featured regularly for the Under 23s.
Dier has endured a difficult season where he has struggled for both form and fitness. He has however experienced an upturn in form since the winter break and has put in some fine performances at the heart of the defence.
With the Englishman’s contract at the club set to expire in 2021, Spurs will have to make a call to keep him or sell him. The club cannot afford to let it drag our like Christian Eriksen this season.
Rice is one of the best young English midfielders in the league today. His performances saw him win West Ham Players’ Player of the Year award while also being declared Young Hammer of the Year for the third consecutive season. (h/t Mirror)
Obtaining a player of Rice’s age and quality would give us a long-term option in midfield. At just 21, he still has the potential to get much better and become a linchpin in the Spurs’ squad.

Although it appears we may have missed out on Rice, in Dier we have a similar player already acquainted with the club. With the 26-year-old showcasing his aptitude as a defender, it also offers us a readymade solution to our defensive rebuild.
Keeping Dier will not leave us at a disadvantage. If anything, it is likely to give us more options going into next season.
