Tottenham Hotspur keen to sign Alex Sandro and Timothy Castagne

According to Italian publication Tuttomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur are keen on raiding Serie A full-backs Alex Sandro and Timothy Castagne in the upcoming transfer window.

Full-back is a position that Spurs need to strengthen. The Lilywhites failed to replace Kieran tripper last summer. Danny Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters have both failed to impress and have gone out on loan, while Serge Aurier has proven to be an untrustworthy option.

The Ivorian international could be offered as a makeweight in a cash plus player deal for Sandro. The Juventus star is valued at £44million, making an outright cash deal unfeasible.

At 29, the Brazilian will not be a long-term option, making such an investment questionable. He has so far made 31 appearances for the Serie A leaders this season, in which he has contributed four assists.

The report claims Spurs are already in advanced talks with another Serie A defender – Atalanta’s Castagne. The 24-year-old Belgium international has scored twice and recorded two assists in 19 games so far this season.

Danny Rose has also been touted as a surprise choice in a swap deal that can see Mattia de Sciglio move to North London. Rose is currently on loan at Newcastle United, with his Spurs career looking done. (h/t Daily Mail)

World-class full-backs are worth their weight in gold today. They not only serve as defenders but also contribute to the attack. Strengthening the position should be a key concern for the club as we attempt to rebuild under Jose Mourinho.
