Jose Mourinho believes his comments on PL resumption were reflected poorly by the press
According to the Standard, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho believes his comments regarding the resumption of the Premier League have been taken out of context by the media.
The Portuguese denied that he was in any way responsible for seeking a delay in the resumption of Premier League matches.
“I don’t think my position in the meeting has been reflected fairly at all today in media reports. I have not asked for any delay.”
Mourinho was part of a meeting in which all 20 top-flight managers took place. They discussed a number of aspects including the resumption of training and matches in a video conference call with the Premier League.
A number of managers have advocated for enough time to resume training before matches return. This has called into question the Premier League’s plans to resume the season on June 12. That date has now been pushed back with the 19th of June seen as a more viable option.
Mourinho also added that he is keen to return to action, especially now that other leagues too are preparing for the same. The Bundesliga will become the first suspended league to resume action this week.
A man filled with pride
The Portuguese was full of praise for his players. They have worked hard at maintaining their fitness in spite of having to train remotely.
“Every player has been extremely committed in terms of their individual work and now we wait for clearance to commence working in small groups again, which I will fully support.”
Mourinho has continued to visit the club’s training base during the lockdown. He has lead from the front in group fitness sessions via Zoom. The club is set to start group training as early as next week, with strict safety protocols in place.
