Tottenham in a six-way battle for Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne
Tottenham are among six clubs vying for the signature of Atalanta and Belgium right-back Timothy Castagne in the summer transfer window. This claim comes from a report in Calciomercato (h/t Football.london).
The 24-year-old has grown into a key player for the Serie A outfit since joining them from Belgian club Genk in 2017. Till date, he has made 82 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals and assisting nine more.
In the 2019/20 campaign, Castagne has featured in 19 matches across all competitions, scoring and assisting two goals apiece. With his contract expiring in a year, there have been speculations over his future at the club, with Tottenham taking an interest in his situation.
However, for Spurs to be able to sign him, we will have to stave off competition from five other clubs. As per the report, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Napoli, Sevilla and Leicester City are all interested in signing the 24-year-old Belgian.
Having sold Kieran Trippier last summer and allowed Kyle Walker-Peters to leave on loan in January, our club is short on options at right-back.
Serge Aurier is the only senior right-sided full-back at Jose Mourinho’s disposal currently. The Ivorian, too, has blown hot and cold over the course of the campaign. Hence, it is necessary for the club to add a new right-back in the summer transfer window.

Castagne, to that end, would be a decent addition. The Belgian is still to enter his prime years and has already gathered plenty of experience at the top level. Furthermore, his €20m isn’t too steep either. However, given the number of clubs interested to secure his signing, our club will have their task cut out to get the deal over the line.
