Spurs Transfer Rumours: Target unwilling to sign extension at current club, Chilean defender on radar
Tottenham Hotspur are making the news even when the football on the pitch is suspended. We take a look at the latest Spurs transfer news and rumours of the day.
Tottenham target Timothy Castagne refuses to sign contract at Atalanta
Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne. According to a report from Corriere Della Sera, the Belgian right-back has no intention of signing a new contract at the Serie A club, opening the door for a summer exit.
It emerged last week that Tottenham are interested in signing the 24-year-old defender. However, the North Londoners are not the only team keen on signing Castagne, with five more clubs from Europe monitoring his situation.
Valued at €20m, Castagne would have been a good prospect for Spurs, given the lack of depth in the right-back department at the club. And, him refusing to sign a contract could be seen as a boost. However, the club will need to stave off competition from other interested parties to secure his signing.
Liverpool join Tottenham in pursuit of Nicolo Zaniolo
According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (h/t Sports Mole), Tottenham are set to face fresh competition in their pursuit of AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, as Liverpool have joined the race to sign the Italian.
Zaniolo has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in Italian football since joining Roma from Inter Milan in 2018. The 20-year-old is reportedly a transfer target for Tottenham heading into the summer, with Manchester United also interested. And to make things more complicated, Liverpool too have entered the fray for his signing.
Valued at €60m by Roma, the Italian international would have been the ideal long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen at Tottenham. However, with competition for his signing intensifying, it remains to be seen if Spurs are able to land Zaniolo.
Tottenham interested in AS Monaco’s Guillermo Maripan
According to reports in Spanish publication AS, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Chilean defender Guillermo Maripan from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco. The 26-year-old joined the Principality outfit only last summer in an €18m deal, but could already be on his way out.
The 24-time capped Chilean international has been attracting a lot of interest from the Premier League as per the report. Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on Maripan, along with fellow London rivals West Ham United. Watford, too, are monitoring the centre-back.
