Barcelona and Juventus agree deal for Tottenham target Nelson Semedo
According to the Spanish publication Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Juventus have agreed on a blockbuster cash plus player deal for Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo.
This will come as a blow for Tottenham, who had been linked with a move for the defender. The deal will see the Catalans net Miralem Pjanic, Mattia De Sciglio, and £22m in cash.
Right-back was a position that Spurs need to upgrade in the upcoming window. Kieran Tripper was sold last summer while Kyle Walker-Peters seemingly does not have a future at the club.
The current first-choice Serge Aurier is more of a liability than an asset. The Ivory Coast international’s penchant for losing his head has more than once put the team in a pickle. His recent antics during the lockdown too, where he flouted social distancing norms, have done little to enhance his reputation.
Tottenham have enjoyed an abysmal season which will once again ended without a trophy. Add to this our lowly position in the league table, a rebuild is the need of the hour.
While we are stocked in some positions, the defence isn’t one of them. Once one of our strengths, the rearguard has largely flattered to deceive this season.
This must be extremely annoying for Jose Mourinho whose teams are built on the foundations of a stingy defense. To put matters in perspective, Spurs are joint bottom for least clean sheets in the Premier League this season.

Semedo is a capable player who can contribute to both the defence and attack. His addition would have brought much-needed solidity to our right flank.
But, it now appears that we will have to look elsewhere.
