Tottenham Hotspur target Guillermo Maripan keen to play in the Premier League

According to Chilean outlet Al Aire Libre (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur target Guillermo Maripan has revealed that he is open to playing in the English Premier League.

“Personally, I have always liked the Premier League a lot”

The Monaco star has been making waves in Ligue 1 since moving to the country last summer. The 26-year-old began his career at Chilean outfit Catolica before moving to Europe with Spanish outfit Alaves in 2017. His performances in Spain eventually earned him a move to Monaco in a deal worth €18m.

A capable central defender, he has made 24 appearances for the French side this season. Not only is he good with the ball at his feet, but he is also dominant in the air. An indirect threat at set-pieces, he has also scored two goals for Monaco. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Maripan’s performances at the Stade Louis II have not gone unnoticed. Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are keen to bring the Chilean international across the channel in the upcoming transfer window.

The player too is keen on such a move and has made his love for the English top-flight clear. This will come as good news for Tottenham, who are keen to add to their squad in the summer.

“I have always wanted to play there, so I am aiming there.”

A key addition

Spurs have so far been the antithesis of a Jose Mourinho team. The Portuguese tactician is associated with building strong teams with a solid backline. Unfortunately, the players seem to have missed the memo as we currently have the joint least number of clean sheets in the entire league.

It is imperative that we add to our defence in the coming window. More so given the uncertainty surrounding the future of Jan Vertonghen.

Although the Belgian veteran has fallen down the pecking order, him leaving will reduce our options in defence going into next season. Toby Alderweireld is not getting any younger while Davinson Sanchez has lacked consistency.

Although the likes of Japhet Tanganga has shown promise, he is still inexperienced and will need veterans to guide him.

Vertonghen isn’t just an excellent defender. He is also a threat at the other end of the pitch. Maripan shares the same traits and could prove to be a shrewd signing by the club.
