Jose Mourinho bids for Kosovan ace Vedat Muriqi

According to Turkish publication Aspor (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has made a bid worth £4.5million for Kosovan international Vedat Muriqi.

The Portuguese tactician is keen to further his Spurs rebuild by wrapping up the deal ahead of the upcoming transfer window. The 26-year-old, who joined Fenerbahce last summer, has been in prolific form. A clinical finisher, he has notched up 15 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances.

Muriqi is an aerially dominant player who does justice to his position as a centre-forward. Apart from being a clinical marksman, he can also hold the ball up and bring his teammates into play. One of his key strengths apart from finishing is his ability to supply through balls.

Spurs erred in their judgment last summer when they let both Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente leave without replacing them. The decision has since come to bite us as Harry Kane’s injury left us short of options up front.

This has proven catastrophic, with the club only having the top four left to fight for. Mourinho is not keen to address the issue and is hopeful that a deal can be struck for Muriqi.

Muriqi’s contract at the club runs until 2023, giving Fenerbahnce a strong position in any negotiations that may take place.

Tottenham are not alone in the race for the Kosovan. Italian giants Lazio and Napoli too have been keeping a watchful eye on his progress in Turkey. The former has already gotten in touch with the player’s agent while the latter is in the market for a striker to replace wantaway striker Arkadiusz Milik.

Interestingly, Milik is another striker who is on Tottenham’s radar.

With our lack of options up front laid bare for all to see, strengthening the position this summer is a no-brainer.

Muriqi has, however, not played in any of Europe’s top leagues. Whether he can cope with the pressures of playing for a club of our stature remains to be seen.
