Aaron Skinner signs first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Aaron Skinner has had a birthday to remember. Turning 18 today, the youngster has put to pen his first professional contract.

Having come through the Bury academy, Skinner represented the club from Under-12 up to the Under-18 level. He played a key role in the Lancashire side reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup in the 2018/19 season.

Bury’s brilliant run to the final eight was ended by eventual champions Liverpool, who ran out 5-1 winners at Gigg Lane. The youngster later joined the ranks at Tottenham after impressing during a trial spell.

The youngster has clearly impressed in his six months at Hotspur Way. This has convinced the club to move quickly and ensure he is tied down for the foreseeable future.

Skinner broke the news on his Instagram account. He also went on to thank everyone who played a part in him getting to where he is today. Able to play in a variety of defensive roles, he will hope to eventually make the step up to the first-team.

The Spurs squad has a number of players who have come through the ranks at Hotspur way. This includes Harry Kane, Harry Winks, and Japhet Tanganga. More could join them soon, with the likes of Oliver Skipp and Troy Parrott also finding opportunities easier to come by.

With the COVID-19 pandemic hitting the club financially, Spurs will do well to have a strong youth system in place. An inability to compete in the transfer market can, to some extent, be offset by the talent coming through.
