Darren Bent urges Tottenham Hotspur to splash the cash on Kai Havertz
According to Football Insider (h/t Express), former Tottenham Hotspur star Darren Bent has urged the club to go big on Bundesliga wonderkid Kai Havertz.
The German international is one of the finest young talents in Europe and has a slew of admirers chasing his signature. He has done his reputation no harm by notching up four goals since the Bundesliga resumed last week.
The attacking midfielder, who can also play as a False-9, has now scored 14 goals and contributed 8 assists in 36 appearances this term. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His performances have naturally drawn interest from some of the biggest names including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Barcelona.
Bent, however, believes Tottenham should trump their rivals to the German playmaker. He believes the 20-year-old will be the perfect foil to both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at Spurs.
“His favoured position is a number 10 so that would be perfect because you’re talking about him, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son – I think that would work really, really well.”
Bent’s comments come just days after he turned down Liverpool as a possible destination for the youngster. He believes Havertz will not get enough game time at Anfield given the brilliance of Roberto Firmino.
Fact and fiction!
Havertz is contracted until 2022 at Bayer Leverkusen. The Germans value the player at €80m. Given the current financial landscape, it is difficult to see how the club can afford to bid for a player of Havertz’s ability.

There is no doubt that Havertz would be a dream signing. Bent is right in his assessment that pulling it off would be nothing short of a coup.
But given the current position the club is in on and off the field, it is difficult to envision such a deal taking place. We will have to wait to see if Jose Mourinho decides to surprise us all.
