Alasdair Gold delivers verdict on Tottenham Hotspur cash injection
According to the reliable Alasdair Gold of Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur fans should not hold their breath expecting owner Joe Lewis to ease his purse strings for the upcoming transfer window.
“I wouldn’t hold your breath”
Gold left no room for doubt as he put to bed hopes that there would be a cash influx to ensure we strengthened the team. He also used ENIC’s history against them as they had failed to do anything of the sort in nearly 20 years at the helm.
Lewis, who owns the majority shares in ENIC, is not a sugar daddy like Roman Abramovitch. The club has instead been a tight run business and it is difficult to envision the 83-year-old break the tradition this summer.
Our notoriously personal owner is someone who shies from the public eye. The Forbes list names Lewis as the 427th richest man in the world with a personal fortune of £3.9billion. This represents a reduction from his last year’s valuation which was £4.6billion.
The news of a lack of investment will not come as a surprise to fans who are used to the club being run in a certain way. With the likes of Liverpool and Manchester city miles ahead of us, Spurs needed to splash the cash in some key areas to help close the gap.
With that not looking likely, Jose Mourinho will have to do the best he can with the squad at his disposal. The club will also do well to target free agents. They are worth their gold in this current financial climate.

Although Spurs have an excellent squad when all the players are fit, the defence continues to be a major concern. Kieran Tripper was not replaced, while the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters and Danny Rose have no future at the club.
Serge Aurier is a liability while Jan Vertonghen leaving will leave us short of backup. This is not taking into consideration the need to add another striker to the squad.
