Son Heung-Min glad to be back after “special experience”
Speaking to the club’s official site, Tottenham star Son Heung-Min has opened up on spending time in South Korea fulfilling his military obligations.
Having been ruled out due to injury, Son returned to his homeland to finish his four-week stint in the nation’s armed forces.
The winger was pardoned from the 21-month term that all Korean men are obliged to complete, owing to his participation in the 2018 Asian Games. A competition that South Korea won.
Now back at Hotspur Way, he is working hard on the pitch as football is set to resume later this month.
A man with a smile, Son admitted that training with the military was a special experience. Although he admitted that it was tough, he attempted to make the most of it and enjoy his experience.
“Three weeks were tough, but those experiences… I will never have those experiences.”
He also formed an excellent camaraderie with his fellow trainees. Something that he does week in week out with the rest of our players. Son received messages of support from fans during his time away. He could only check his phone once his training was complete. Touched by the backing received, he is keen to repay it on the pitch.
“I’m really grateful how they support me from the other side. I try to be ready, try to be sharp and on the pitch, it will try to do the best for you guys.”
He is also glad to come back to his ‘family away from home’ – his Spurs teammates. The same can be said for his teammates, who welcomed him back with equal gusto.
“I’m grateful, happy. I couldn’t even stop smiling, like always!”
