Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho keen on Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma
According to French publication RMC Sport (h/t Express), Jose Mourinho has informed Daniel Levy that he wants to bring in Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 25-year old returned to Stamford Bridge following a successful loan at Everton. He went on to start 20 of the first 21 Premier League games under Frank Lampard. He did find himself on the periphery in the last eight games though, as he started just one of them. (h/t Express)
Neither Chelsea nor Lampard are against the idea of letting the Frenchman leave. According to the report, the player too is unsure of his future at Stamford Bridge.
The defence is an area that needs strengthening in the upcoming transfer window. With veteran defender, Jan Vertonghen’s contract expiring this month, he is expected to leave the club.
This leaves another spot open in a rearguard that has so far flattered to deceive. In Zouma, he has a young replacement who can replace the Belgian at Spurs. It was Mourinho who gave the Chelsea star his debut during his time at the club.
Zouma was at the end of a lashing from Mourinho, who termed him ‘rubbish’ after a poor display. The Portuguese is not known to mince his words and at times, players should be told as to how bad their performances are. (h/t Express)
The fact that Mourinho is now interested in him shows that the manager is not afraid to put his ego behind him if it suits the greater good. Zouma may not be the best defender in the league but he could be exactly what Tottenham need.

A strong rear-guard has been the hallmark of a Mourinho team. Being difficult to score against also lessens the pressure on our forwards to score more in each game.
It is a concept Mourinho thrived on at Chelsea and Inter Milan to huge success. He may need to revisit what he does best to turn Spurs around.
